# key discoveries from India's lunar mission ;
Chandarayan 3 India's third lunar exploration mission , marks another leap forward in space exploration for the indian space research organisation (I.S.R.O). Launched on July 14 , 2023 , this mission aimed to demonstrate a successful soft landing on the moon's south pole and deploy a rover to study a lunar surface. With its successful landing on August 23 , 2023 , chandarayan 3 has already added to our understanding of the moon's unexplored regions. Here are some of the most notable discoveries and achievements of the mission:
1. Confirmation of lunar soil composition:
The lunar soil also known as regolith , has been confirmed to be composed mainly of the following:
1. Silicon dioxide (SIO²) : makes up a significant part of the lunar surface in the form of silicate materials.
2. Aluminum oxide (Al²O³) : found as a major component in many of the lunar rockets.
Calcium oxide and magnesium oxide are also present in significant amount and many other gases etc.
